Description: Has color mystified
you? Do you shudder when you have to choose a pleasing color

Starting with paint chips, Linda will examine your color preferences,
then work together with acid dyes to create blended colors that 'speak'
to you, ones that you can recreate when you dye your fiber...every time
you try. Learn about warm and cool colors, color mixing, using a
proportional system to create the colors that you want.
This is a class for the student who wants to 'get out of the jar' and
confidently define and create the dye colors she wants to use. You

Drafting is the plotting woven pattern (threading, tie up, treadling)

practicing scales are to a musician. This workshop will take you
step by step through the process of how to write a draft and how to
analyze a woven fabric. With these skills weavers of all levels will be
able to read written textile drafts from the complex to the simple,
from the historic to the contemporary. Class

Sunday 9:00 A.M.-11:00 P.M. Instructor: Linda StearnsClass Size: 10 Description: This
activity is appropriate for ages 8 to 80. A design of choice is
lightly traced or drawn freehand on a disc of stretched silk. The
design is retraced with a non-toxic chemical that preserves the
linework. Fabric paints (that behave like water colors) are then
applied in between the lines to define the design and give it the
colors that you like. The overall result is similar to stained glass
exhibiting areas of vibrant colors. More complex results can be
achieved with shading, blending, masking and "salting" while the paints
are still wet. Your disc can be hung in a window, back-lit or used as
an
ornament. Small ones or those of varying sizes can be assembled for a
mobile. My grandson chose a primitive face to put on his; my
granddaughter, a red lady bug. Class

AM
- 12:00 PM Instructor: Linda Scharf
Class
Size: 12 Description:
Let's listen to the trees, stones and explore deep textures of the
natural elements that make up the grounds of Fiber College to receive
inspiration for our art and projects. Maybe we'll make nests, draw our
visions, create a wild hat or do some free form knitting and
crochet. We'll plan to do some tromping around near the water and
whatever else draws our attention. Then we'll see what our conversation
with nature gives us as we work a bit with our usual materials or try
something
new. Whatever we learn can be taken back to our life in an invisible
pocket and we can draw upon it for inspiration all year long. My
past visits to Fiber College have made me realize that setting aside a
time for a conscious engagement with the environment, and thinking
about how it related to my work was time well spent. You'll leave with
a clear sense of how to work with what nature offers and how to
transform it into projects in unique ways. Bring a
sketchbook/notebook and drawing tool, whether you think you can draw or
not, and perhaps some of your usual fiber arts tools to use in class.
If you have a camera, feel free to bring it as well. Appropriate
